The Pyramid

The 25 Building Blocks of the Pyramid of Success
Block 1: Industriousness

"In plain and simple English this means hard work. Very hard work. There is no substitute for very hard work when it comes to success."

What this is trying to say is that to be successful and to get far, comes very hard work that you need to do. Success isn't handed to you you need to work for it. Industrious means very hard-working. So to be successful means you have to be industrious. That is the first block of the pyramid of success. What it means to me is to not be a procrastinator. Staying on top and doing your work at all times.

Block 2: Enthusiasm
"It is the engine that powers all blocks of the Pyramid. It is why I chose Industriousness and Enthusiasm as the cornerstones of my Pyramid of Success. It is where everything begins."

I agree with what John Wooden has to say about his Pyramid of Success. He says that industriousness and enthusiasm is the start of everything and it's true. To be successful, you need to do hard work and actually be enthusiastic about it. If you're not enthusiastic about the work you're doing, it isn't going to be the best you've done and you're not going to put 100% in it like you should. Enthusiasm is very important not only to be successful but you should use enthusiasm in everyday life. It would make things way easier.

Block 3: Friendship
"Comes from mutual esteem, respect and devotion. Like marriage it must not be taken for granted but requires a joint effort."

One of the blocks in the pyramid of success is friendship. To reach the top of the success pyramid you need to have good friendships, which you can rely on. To have a good friendship you need to have joint effort. You must not take it for granted because friendships give support. To be successful something you really need is support. Support in whatever you want to do and dream to do. With no support it is hard to be motivated to keep on going and reaching your goals. It is important to not take the friendships for granted, because if you do, you might lose them. Friendships build when you have the same respect, devotion, and mutual esteem.

Block 4: Loyalty
"To yourself and to all those depending upon you. Keep your self-respect."

Block 5: Cooperation

"With all levels of your co-workers. Listen if you want to be heard. Be interested in finding the best way, not in having your own way."

According to John Wooden, to be successful you need you cooperate. With whomever it may be, being respectful is necessary. Helping eachother come up with a solution is better than figuring everything on your own. You don't need to figure everything on your own. It is best when you are cooperating.

Block 6: Ambition
For noble goals

Block 7: Self-Control
"Practice self-discipline and keep emotions under control. Good judgement and common sense are essential."

Block 8: Alertness
"Be observing constantly. Stay open-minded. Be eager to learn and improve."

Block 9: Initiative
"Cultivate the ability to make decisions and think alone. Do not be afraid of failure, but learn from it."

Block 10: Intentness
"Set a realistic goal. Concentrate on its achievement by resisting all temptations. Be determined and persistent."

Block 10 of the pyramid of success is intentness, meaning wanting to reach a goal and being persistent and determined. When setting a goal, in order to reach the goal you have to want to reach it by being persistent and hardworking. You have to have that intent of reaching it. Its a very important step into the pyramid of success.

The 10 Keys To Personal Power

Key 3: Concentration
"Make the best use of your time. Ask yourself "Is this the best use of my time?" before you start anything."

Key 4: Common Sense
  • Train your mind
  • Think things through
  • Listen to your intuition
  • Learn from setbacks
Key 5: Creativity
"Expect the fact that every human being is a genius. The hallmark of creativity is asking questions. The people who are most creative ask the most questions."

Reflection: This is true because asking more questions lead to knowing more information and filling your brain with knowledge makes you more creative. Learning new things makes you wonder even more things. Being creative makes you wonder and think of ways to create something or come up with solutions. Everyone is capable of doing that, so therefore you're being creative.

Key 8: Commitment

"No success is possible without commitment. The ability to commit yourself whole heartily is the basis of achieving all success."

"Become totally absorbed in your work. Be totally committed."

Key 9: Courage

"The fear of failure is the single greatest reason for failure in life."

In life, it isnt always a win. Sometimes you have to fail and lose. But that doesn't mean that you didn't do a great job. You also have to learn how to fail. Many people have a fear for failing but in order to get over that fear, is to actually fail. There is nothing wrong with failing. On the contrary, in order to grow you have to fail sometime in life. So the single greatest reason for failure in life, is fearing failure. They say we have to get over our fears sometime in our life, so fearing failure alone is already a great reason when you fail. Its what you do after what counts. Its having the courage to get up and move on and learn from it, opposed to letting it define you and beating you up.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Image result for the 7 habits of highly effective people
Habit 1: Be Proactive
"Habit 1 is the key to unlocking all the other habits and that's why it comes first. It says, "I am the captain of my life. I can choose my attitude. I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger."

The first habit is to be proactive. Stephen R. covey says it is the key to unlocking all the other habits. I agree on what he says because everyone is responsible for their own actions and choices. He says, "I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness." and i think that it's true. You decide whether to let something bother you or not. If you're unhappy that's up to you. You choose where you wanna go and what you want to do in life and you shouldn't let anyone else decide that. Like he says, " I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger." You choose your attitude and your choices and your emotions. By being proactive you take control of your own life, not somebody else.

"I like to encourage people to realize that any action is a good action if it's proactive and there is positive intent behind it."- Michael J. Fox

The way that I will apply this to my life is by reminding myself that I am responsible for my own happiness and unhappiness and that you don't always have to let things affect you.

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind.
"Control your own destiny or someone else will." (Jack Welch)
"When you know where you intend to end up, you know where you are now." (Covey)

Stephen says to begin with the end in mind. Meaning that whenever you start something you should start it with the end in your mind. What do you want out of whatever you're doing? What is your goal? I think that helps you reach your goal because you're starting it with a goal already set. It helps you stay focused to get closer to whatever it is that you want.

Habit 3: Put First Things First
"Organize and execute around priorities."
Stephen says a habit of a highly effective person is putting things first. I agree that everyone should put things first because it's best to get things done first. Especially the most important things. It's better to get them out of the way, that way you have free time. Also if you don't put things first, you might fall behind and not get things done in the first place. You should make that a habit and you'll always be on top of your game.
"First things first, second things never."- Shirley Conran

The way that I will apply this to my life is by putting important things first and getting them over with first.

Habit 4:

Habit:5

Habit:6

Habit:7
Sharpen the Saw
The four dimension of self-renewal: Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social/Emotional
These four dimensions of self-renewal are important for your social development. There are many ways to sharpen all of these dimension. The habits provided by Stephen will help people and me how to sharpen these aspects of an individual. I think that by working on all of these dimensions will help you be happy and do good in life. You need to be in a good physical, mental, spiritual, and social/emotional state to function well and go through everyday life.

Reflection: I think these habits are very helpful in the development of our personalities and makes us realize right from wrong. I think that everyone should take this advice from Stephen very seriously. They will help us to learn to become a better person and how to achieve our goals and dreams. Things like putting things first and being proactive are things that i will always remind myself of. I now know that you should prioritize what is important and always have the end and outcome in mind.
