According to New York Times, this year voters will decide between two ballot measures; Proposition 62, which would end the death penalty and replace with life sentence, or Proposition 66, which would speed up the executions. There has been many stories about people being murdered, the murderer being put in prison, on death row, but they stay there for many decades. They end up either dying of natural causes, or committing suicide. I believe that California should get rid of the death penalty once and for all. By keeping those criminals on death row costs a lot of money, just so that they can end up having more life time and dying of natural cause. I think that they should ban the death penalty and just give them life sentences. I don't believe that for those people who murder, death scares them. It doesn't. I bet that they are fine with the death penalty, it doesn't phase them. If they were given life sentence, I feel like that would be a bigger punishment, because at least now, they'll have to sit in a cell till the day they die. They get to be reminded of what they have done. Even if they have no remorse, it will come back to haunt them. I don't believe anything would change if people voted for the death penalty to get sped up. There is many of them on death row, and the process takes a very long time. I think that it's a waste of time and money keeping them there. The better punishment would be letting them stay there for life.
